100 years after the humble beginnings of Planned Parenthood in Brownsville, after overcoming countless hurdles in the fight for reproductive rights, Americans are faced with an administration that fails to see women’s health services as an essential component of equality.
One December weekend in New York, we took the portraits of over 25 ‘nasty’ womxn and asked them: ‘What makes you powerful?’ By challenging the familiar narratives assigned to womxn, we seek to inspire both the women who are featured, and any person who comes across this collection. The Future is Nasty is an object of activism, and a work of art created by a female group of photographers, art directors, producers, editors and graphic designers. It is estimated that one in five women in the U.S. has visited a Planned Parenthood health center at least once in her life.
